Gardens in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai Province is one of the most beautiful provinces of Thailand. It is located in the north of the country, about 700 km from the capital city of Thailand, Bangkok.

It is a very mountainous province, which mountains are atlas mountain trekking mostly covered by tropical jungles. There are quite a few national parks in the Chiang Mai Province. The highest mountain of Thailand, Doi Inthanon is also located in the Province, not far from the capital of the Chiang Mai Province which is also called Chiang Mai.

The Chiang Mai Province is also a home to some beautiful gardens.

Dokmai Garden

Dokmai is a private botanical garden open to guests. It is a perfect place to learn about botanical gardens, Thai fauna and flora, Thai nature and Thai culture. The garden is run by Swedish botanist Eric Danell and the Thai family Seehamongkol, who live there. It covers the area of 4 hectare s (10 acres). You can see there over a thousand of different species of flowers, but you can also see there many birds, butterflies, fish, mushrooms and other living things.

You can get to Dokmai (Dokmai means “flower” in Thai) Garden by a car, a taxi, a tuk tuk or a motorcycle from the Chiang Mai city.

Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden

The Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden is located in beautiful Doi Pui-Suthep montains. In the area three rivers converge into one. The mountains are very lush, making the place perfect for a botanical garden. If you want to relax and see the beautiful flora of Thailand it is a must see place. You can also see there many endangered and rare species. It is also a place where a lot of research on different species of Thai flora is done, and you can meet there many Thai students, too.

If you want to have a perfect day in the country you should go there. It is a very relaxing and beautiful place, where you can enjoy beautiful views of nature and different plants, flowers, shrubs and other species, and you can smell their scents, which can be really overwhelming.

Some of the main attractions of Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden are: Natural Science Museum, trails through the forests, three different walking trails in the garden where you can see orchids, waterfalls and more, Traditional Thai Food, Botanic Residence, A Short Cultural and Nature Trail, Glasshouse Complex, Rainforest Collection, Aquatic House, Orchid and Fern House, Cacti and Succulents House, and more.

The Promenada Resort Mall Gardens

The Promenada Resort Mall in Chiang Mai will open in the second half of 2012. If you don’t have much time and can’t travel to the gardens outside of the Chiang Mai Cit, you could visit the gardens in the Promeanda Resort Mall. As the name suggests the Promenada won’t be a place just for shopping. There will be also many gardens and parks. Some of them will be located inside the Promenada Resort Mall in the fully air conditioned area, and some will be located in the open area around the Promenada Resort Mall.
